Clarity comes from creating an environment within yourself of joy and ease. The constant pressure we put on ourselves to know answers instantaneously are our attempts at saving ourselves from pain. The process is a recipe for frustration, bitterness, and disappointment.

The good news?

CLARITY SPRINGS FROM JOY + EASE

To gain clarity, we must first create a warm, supportive environment within. My graduate thesis centered on this premise in regards to student learning outcomes. We simply cannot grow or learn if we are in a hostile environment.

It isn’t a stretch to apply this finding to ourselves. How can we expect to learn and grow if we’ve created an internal hostile environment?

IF WE’RE UNDER CONSTANT PRESSURE TO FIND OUR PURPOSE, WE’RE NOT CREATING SPACE FOR OUR PURPOSE TO REVEAL ITSELF.

WE INVITE JOY TO CREATE SPACE WITHIN US AND THEN OUR PURPOSE FLOWS FORTH.

If we’re constantly prodding at ourselves, we’re not taking advantage of our natural gifts.

Purpose reveals itself over time.

The objective of this inventory exercise is to observe your natural patterns and inclinations and find where you are in and out of alignment with your goals.

There are 3 main outcomes:

1) You find that you are in alignment and just have been putting pressure on yourself

2) Your goals no longer align with who you are now

3) What you’re doing right now does not support your goals

Any of these outcomes are good!

The goal is to gain awareness and understand where we are right now in our process.

START BY TRACKING YOUR TIME AND TAKING STOCK OF YOUR PAST WEEK. TAKE OUT A JOURNAL (OR YOUR NOTES APP) AND HAVE A GOOD, DEEP THINK ABOUT THE FOLLOWING THINGS

WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP?

WHAT THINGS CAN YOU JUST NOT SHUT UP ABOUT? WHAT COULD YOU GOOGLE ALL DAY AND LEARN ABOUT? WHAT COULD YOU DO ALL DAY? WHAT DO YOU DO ALL DAY? WHAT GIVES YOU LIFE?!

If the above isn’t easily answered — When was the last time you did something you enjoyed?

WHEN?

A daily basis? Weekly basis? Monthly basis?

If you aren’t currently making space to do things that bring you joy, how can you clear out the JUNK?

(TRACK YOUR TIME! Look at your iphone’s terrifying ability to see where you spend your time. HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND SCROLLING? Could you start putting down your phone & devoting those scroll minutes to JOY MINUTES?!

What are the things you are doing instead? Are they crucial to your happiness and personal development? Can someone else do them?

FIND YOUR JOY!

IDENTIFY YOUR SPIRITUAL PROTOCOL

Here’s what’s real. Everyone needs a spiritual practice. We need to balance our mind, our bodies, and our spirits. There’s not one way to do this. You don’t need to go on a juice cleanse or take 2 yoga classes a day. You simply have to identify the processes that bring you balance.

It does not need to look the same for everyone or even every day. Life is seasonal. We find new tools and new ways to balance throughout our lifetime.

Is it yoga? Is it a walk? Is it a few minutes of prayer, is it washing your face and enjoying your products?

(I personally take great pleasure in my skincare routine which changes all the time but involves a lot of different potions)

Anything counts, just be PRESENT.

Many people will try to convince us that there is only one way to achieve spiritual harmony. Meh, I don’t think so. Tapping into our spirits is possible in so many different ways. Maybe kayaking allows you to connect. Maybe singing is your way to the divine inside, maybe it’s tap-dancing or woodworking. For as many people are out there, there are myriad ways to connect our minds to our bodies to our souls.

It doesn’t matter why the means are, the end result is what matters. The more that we’re able to link up our mind/body/soul the more we’re going to be living in our own spiritual alignment and living in our energetic truth.

Whatever you find works for you, do it!

HELP, I DON’T THINK I HAVE A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE?

If you’re not sure what you do to refresh your soul, journaling, meditation, yoga, kundalini yoga, or simple breath work are great places to start.

You don’t have to do the same thing every day. It’s about connecting your mind, body and spirit in a way where you can tap into your own guidance.

We’re WISE! We know a lot more than we give ourselves credit for - if you’re feeling stuck, take some time to feel into your body.

I like a really simple technique - just taking the time to stand on my own two feet, feeling my spine align properly and grounding into my feet. From there I open my palms outward and close my eyes and breathe.

Notice what you do when you’re “bored” or have downtime. Are these things you like to do? Are they adding to your life or filling time?

(The more you connect with you, the more you develop an awareness to what you do and what works for you.)

PUT THE SCREEN DOWN.

There’s a reason you’re seeing so many articles on forest bathing, we’re all stressed and we need that earth medicine. It may have a fancy name, but a walk outside is free, y’all!

EVEN A QUICK WALK IS BENEFICIAL. EVEN JUST LEAVING YOUR HOUSE FOR ONE MINUTE AND LOOKING OUT AT THE SKY WILL BE A WONDERFUL BREAK FOR YOUR SPIRIT.

TURN OFF YOUR PHONE (OR JUST SILENCE IT)

HOLY SMOKES ARE WE ADDICTED TO OUR TECHNOLOGY.

A CHALLENGE - see if you can put your phone in another room or an hour. Can leave it at home while you take a walk? Well done. That wasn’t too painful, now was it? Or maybe it was, phone addiction is real. Start small & soon it won’t be as big a deal.

Why are we doing this?

CREATING DISTANCE BETWEEN OURSELVES AND OUR PHONES IS SUPER HELPFUL WHEN WE’RE TRYING TO TUNE IN TO OUR INNER WISDOM.


Life is a strange experiment in which we find out what our beliefs are amidst a sea of competing viewpoints. 


GETTING NEXT LEVEL

  • Turn off your tv for a day or two.

  • Delete apps that suck your time.

  • Unfollow people or accounts that bring up negative feelings within you. Life is too damn short to keep spending your time comparing your life to others.

The more you can block out the noise, the more you can tap into your inner well of energy and expand into your soul purpose.
